Expert talk: Why Prison? Their History and Legacy

1 January 2017

UNFORTUNATLY PROFESSOR BROOKS HAS COME DOWN ILL AND WILL BE UNABLE TO DO THIS TALK. WE APOLOGISE FOR ANY INCONVIENIENCE THIS MAY CAUSE. WE WILL TRY AND RESCHEDULE THE TALK FOR NEXT YEAR

Join expert Pro Thom Brooks who will reveal the history of prisons. Find out how the earliest prisons started out as holding cells until a king's representative could administer local trials to decide who deserved which punishment, and then how the idea of keeping prisoners in a cell became the punishment. Find out about our efforts to reform, including rehabilitation in Victorian times. Afterwards will be a special opportunity to handle items from the Prison and Police Museum Collection.

Talk 2-3pm
