Call for Artists now open!

We’re delighted to announce that our brief is now live for the 2021 contemporary art commission at Ripon Museum Trust.

As part of an exciting phase at Ripon Museum Trust, we are working with contemporary artists to bring the history of our three museums to life in a new way.

We are inviting artists working in all disciplines to respond to one or more of the outdoor spaces at Ripon Workhouse Museum, and to work with our staff, volunteers and community of special interest groups to develop a contemporary art commission.

Ripon Museum Trust has successfully delivered four contemporary art installations, working with artists Catherine Bertola, Pippa Hale, Paul Rooney and Faye Claridge. Our most recent art commission, Prisoners on Prisoners by Faye Claridge, is currently on display at our Prison & Police Museum. It explores stories of historic and contemporary female prisoners through audio, photography and textiles. You can find out more here.

Leah Mellors, Curator, said “As a Trust, we are excited and positive about the way in which contemporary art can offer new perspectives on our unique historic buildings and collections. We are keen to provide opportunities for everyone to access art and explore our heritage through art, in line with the Arts Council England’s Creative Case for Diversity. After the success of our previous art commissions, we can’t wait to see what people will come up with in response to our workhouse site”.

To find out more about this commission, please read our Artist Brief. If you have any questions, please contact our Curator, Leah Mellors on [email protected] or call 01765 538877.

Deadline for Expressions of Interest is Friday 27 March 2020.
