Explore the darker side of the historic city of Ripon on this ghost walk, hearing tales of ghouls and ghostly goings on around every corner!
Dates for 2021 are listed below. So that we can manage group numbers in line with current COVID-19 guidance, we ask you to book your tickets in advance online.
Price: £3 adults / £2 under 16s
Meet from 7pm by the red telephone boxes in the Market Place for a 7.15pm start (meet at 5pm for a 5.15pm start for family walks, 31 October only). The walk will last around 1 hour 30 minutes, finishing back at the Market Square in time to see the Ripon Hornblower at 9pm.
Explore the darker side of Ripon’s history from the macabre to the mysterious. Discover ancient burial sites, curious bone finds and characters who lived and died hundreds of years ago but who some say still linger.
Following the same route as the normal Ghost Walk but with some extra themed spooky stories added in - feel free to dress up in Halloween costume or put your Santa hats on!
Due to COVID-19, we ask you to book your tickets online in advance. You can select the event you'd like to book via the links above.
There's no audience participation on the ghost walks required, just fascinating stories and spooky tales to be heard as you explore the most haunted spots of Ripon.
Of course, any questions and comments you may have are welcome along the way, and if you've ever seen a ghost in Ripon, we'd love to hear about it!
The Ghost Walk is suitable for anyone who wants to hear about the ghostly goings on in Ripon, past and present. They are aimed at adults and family groups with children 7-16.
Friendly dogs are more than welcome. They'll need to be kept on a lead and won't be able to enter the musuems on any museum specials. All we ask is that you're mindful of any children (or adults) on the walk who may be scared of dogs, and take action if your dog does get a little excited and people cannot hear the guide.
The route is suitable for pushchairs with the negotiation of a few steps and alleyways. Our guides are happy to adapt the route for wheelchair users but would prefer advance notice in order to ensure the best route on the night.
We don't want to give too much away, but you will be doing some walking - about 1 mile - mainly along pavements but with some steps and cobbles too.
Yes! If you have a group of 10 or more and are interested in a Ghost Walk just for your group, get in touch. Our volunteer guides are busy folk so they may not be available but will do their best to accommodate you.
Tony, our Ripon Ambassador, will welcome you in the Market Square and introduce you to either Mark or David, our ghost walk leaders who have a penchant for the macabre.
On some nights, you might even be lucky enough to see Richard or Joel at the Workhouse Museum, but it's best not to interact with them, just in case.
The Ripon Ghost Walk is run through Ripon Museums and supported by Review Ripon as a great thing to do in Ripon. All guides provide their time free of charge with all proceeds donated to the Ripon Museums Trust.
