Essential info

Ripon Museums will reopen this spring, in line with Government guidance.

The Workhouse Museum Gardens will open from Thursday 15 April,  with a family-friendly trail to guide visitors around the site. The gardens will be open Thursday to Sunday, 11am to 3pm. The Trust’s three museums – the Workhouse Museum, Prison & Police Museum and Courthouse Museum – will reopen fully in line with the Government guidance on Monday 17 May. The museums will then be open Tuesday to Sunday, with full details of our opening hours below.

Museum Ticket Arrangements

In order to provide our visitors with a safe and enjoyable experience, we are limiting the number of visitors who are able to access our museums at any one time and for this reason, all tickets must be purchased in advance.

Please follow current Government guidance on group size when visiting Ripon Museum Trust. Please do not visit it you are displaying symptoms of Coronavirus.

All visitors must have pre-booked their tickets and a 30 minute arrival timeslot and should present their email ticket by phone or a printed copy at reception. The booked timeslot indicates arrival times only - visitors are welcome to spend as much time as they wish absorbing the stories within our three museums. We recommend at least 1.5 hours to fully appreciate the Workhouse Museum & Garden; 1 hour for the Prison & Police Museum and 45 minutes for the Courthouse Museum.

We have taken additional measures to ensure the safety and wellbeing of all our staff, volunteers and visitors. These measures have been taken following Government guidance and following Public Health England recommendations. We have received our accreditation from VisitEngland which recognizes that we are following government and industry COVID-19 guidelines, ensuring processes are in place to maintain cleanliness and aid social/physical distancing:

  • Social distancing measures
  • Intensive cleaning regime
  • Protective screens and signage
  • Face coverings to be worn in our museums
  • Picnic area
  • Toilet facilities (NB: no toilet facilities at the Prison & Police or Courthouse Museums)

You can enjoy a cup of Rijo coffee in the Workhouse Museum and can bring along a picnic to enjoy in our grounds. Gift shops are available in the museums and we ask that visitors use contactless payments wherever possible.

You can book your timed tickets to our three museums online .

Please note that Annual Museum Pass tickets that were issued in 2020 have had a three month extension automatically added.
