Job opportunities at the Ripon Museum Trust

The Ripon Museum Trust has existed since 1982 and runs three museums in the heart of Ripon. We are looking to fill three positions in our team.

1.  Zero Hours Front of House Assistant

 This post is responsible for delivering first class customer service to every visitor who comes to one of our museums. The post holder will be responsible for ensuring the museums are clean and tidy and fully stocked and ready to operate. They will provide excellent customer service, and strive to meet and exceed the Trust’s targets for Gift Aid uptake, survey completion and mailing list uptake.

 As this is zero hours there is no start and finish date.

 Hours: This is a zero hour’s contract, hours will vary from week to week. Must be able to work weekends.

 Salary: £8.72 per hour

 Hours of work: Variable.  Our normal opening hours (6 days a week) are between 11.00 (10 am in the school holidays) and 16.00 so most shifts will be around this time period. Shifts may start 30 minutes before opening and may end 30 minutes after closing.

Lunch breaks will be provided as appropriate.

2. Marketing Manager, Ripon Museum Trust

Do you have the drive and ambition to work with a successful heritage organisation, reaching out to visitors, ensuring they have a brilliant experience and growing our audiences?

Do you have excellent presentation and promotional skills to design and run really innovative and effective PR campaigns? 

Do you have the foresight and analytical skills to scan the horizon, use data and develop long term successful marketing strategies? 

Do you have the networking and communications know-how to work with national players such as the Arts Council, regional partners and our team of 150 volunteers?

In 2020 the global Covid-19 pandemic has been a particularly challenging time for the whole tourism industry and Ripon Museums were closed for just over 3 months. In mid-July we reopened with Government safety measures in place and the Visit Britain’s ‘Good to Go’ kitemark. The Trust understands the absolute importance of marketing to our recovery process and survival going forwards.

We are looking to recruit a dynamic and innovative Marketing Manager, who can help us on this journey, taking us from strength to strength, anticipating opportunities and adding value to the Senior Management team. This will be challenging for sure, but the job satisfaction and team work rewards will be high. This post will lead, develop and manage Ripon Museum Trust’s promotional and marketing activities. We have a well-established offer and programme covering law and order, social justice and poverty to promote to tourists, learners and online users from across the region and beyond.  We have an active schools, groups and hire programme as well. The Trust is a National Portfolio Organisation (Band 1 until March 2023) and uses Arts Council funding to broaden our core demographics to deliver ACE’s  ‘Let’s Create Vision and Strategy 2020 – 2030.

Work base:                              Ripon Workhouse Museum

Salary:                                     £25,593 per annum (pro rata £17,915)

Contract:                                 Until March 2023

Hours of work:                        Part-time – 26 hours per week (0.70 full time). These hours can be worked flexibility across the week. Some evening and weekend work will be required

Responsible to:                       Museum Director

 

3. Part Time Operations Officer (Six Months fixed term contract), Ripon Museum Trust

Our Vision is to inspire people to seek a fairer society.  Our Mission is to use the unique trio of the Workhouse, Prison & Police and Courthouse Museums, our collections and the stories they tell to help people explore big issues such as fairness, equality, justice and welfare.

The postholder will be responsible for ensuring that the museums have everything they need to operate and be administered effectively. You will order the stock required to keep them well supplied and undertake a varied administrative (including financial administration) workload to meet standards, targets and deadlines. Familiarity with financial software and Excel is essential. You will also assist with managing the volunteer rota, recruitment and development. You will coordinate and administer external room hire.

Work base:                              Ripon Workhouse Museum

Salary:                                     £17,000 per annum (pro rata 92% = £15,640)

Contract:                                 Six months from appointment

Hours of work:                        Part-time – 34 hours per week (0.92 full time). These hours will be worked flexibly Monday – Friday 9am – 5pm. Some evening and weekend work will be required.

Responsible to:                       Volunteer and Operations Manager
