Guardiansā room
Boards of guardians were created by the Poor Law Amendment Act 1834, replacing the parish overseers of the poor established under the old poor law, following the recommendations of the Poor Law Commission. Boards administered workhouses within a defined poor law union consisting of a group of parishes, either by order of the Poor Law Commission, or by the common consent of the parishes. Once a union was established it could not be dissolved or merged with a neighbouring union without the consent of its board.
Each board was composed of guardians elected by the owners and bona fide occupiers of land liable to pay the poor rate. Depending on the value of the property held, an elector could cast from one to three votes. Electors could nominate proxies to cast their vote in their absence. Where property was held by a corporation or company, its governing body could nominate an officer to cast its vote or votes.
The GuardiansāĀ RoomĀ was used by the great and good of RiponĀ and offers you the option to be seated in a more opulent style.
With space for 12 around the grand table, it is an ideal space for small meetings or as a breakout space. The table can be moved, making space for lecture style arrangement for up to 50.

DiningĀ hall
Located in our Main Block, the dining room is the largest spaceĀ we have available to hire. With full AV facilities, it is perfect for lectures, presentations, concerts, meals, film shows, dances and much more.
With space for up to 70 lectureĀ style, we can also supply tables to create a large boardroom style space.

Conference room
Does exactly what it says on the tin. This room is an excellent boardroom style space with seating at the table for 20 people. Good for presentations, lectures or round tableĀ events.

Art room
A new addition, theĀ ArtĀ Room is the space if you need to do something artistic. It can be used for any form of visual art, pottery, painting and much more.

Woodshed
The Woodshed can seat up to 40 lecture style or 20 boardroomĀ style. Perfect for meetings, lectures, concerts or hands on activities.
This room can be hired during museum opening hours orĀ in theĀ evening.
Hire cost Ā£12 per hour.Ā
Day room
The intimate surroundings of the Day Room are perfect for smaller groups. Ideal for cabaret style of up to 25 people or lecture style for 30. This is also a perfect breakout room for small group sessions.
This room can be hired during museum opening hours only.

Activities
We can supply hands-on activities or guided tours of the museum for you. This can include object handling, rag rug making, a mock trial, Punch and Judy shows, or a tour of the Workhouse Museum, PrisonĀ &Ā Police Museum and Courthouse Museum.Ā Bespoke packages can also be created.Ā Please contact us to discuss prices and options.
Facilities
Each room hire comes with tea and coffee making facilities for you to supply your own drinks. We can supply teas, coffees and biscuits at Ā£1 per person. We can also arrange lunches in this venue with our local supplier, providing top quality food for any event. Please contact us to discuss prices and requirements.
Toilets are available on site for use with all of the hire rooms.
We can supplyĀ aĀ laptop, projector and screen,Ā as well as flip charts and pens. There isĀ wifiĀ access in GuardiansāĀ Room, Conference RoomĀ and Day Room. For an addition cost of Ā£10 per hour we can supply a technician to ensure your AV experience runs smoothly.
