Make Your Own Flea
Ripon Workhouse Museum
Fleas may be tiny, but they’ve been a BIG pest throughout history! To prevent the spread of disease the staff in Victorian workhouses created strict rules to stop any risk of the fleas spreading. The newly arrived paupers had their clothing taken and put into a de-infester – a big box that got rid of the fleas using a candle.
However, we’re giving you the chance to make your own fiendish flea friend out of pompoms and pipe cleaners. Save a far less irritating flea from the de-infester, and take them on a tour of the museum with you.
This is one of the many fun and creative activities included in the price of your annual pass across our three museums. Make sure you check our ‘Things To Do’ page to see what we have coming up.
Please note that all children must be accompanied by an adult. This activity will involve glue and scissors. We suggest that this activity is suitable for children 4+.
This activity is at Ripon Workhouse Museum.
