COVID-19 measures

The health and wellbeing of our visitors is important to us. During the pandemic, we offered pre-booked timeslots to our museums to help manage visitor numbers, but we are now phasing these out. However, they may be reintroduced if needed.

Visitors can pre-book their tickets online, but we also accept ‘walk-ups’ on the day.

The booked timeslot indicates arrival times only – visitors are welcome to spend as much time as they wish absorbing the stories within our three museums. We recommend at least 1.5 hours to fully appreciate the Workhouse Museum & Garden, 1 hour for the Prison & Police Museum and 45 minutes for the Courthouse Museum. Please present your email ticket at reception, either via your phone or as a print out.

Please do not visit it you are displaying symptoms of Coronavirus.

We have taken additional measures to ensure the safety and wellbeing of all our staff, volunteers and visitors. These measures have been taken following Government guidance and following Public Health England recommendations. We have received our accreditation from VisitEngland which recognizes that we are following government and industry COVID-19 guidelines, ensuring the following processes are in place to maintain cleanliness and aid social/physical distancing (when needed):

  • Social distancing measures
  • Intensive cleaning regime
  • Protective screens and signage
  • Face coverings are encouraged in our museums
  • Picnic area
  • Toilet facilities (NB: no toilet facilities at the Courthouse Museums)
