As we celebrate Volunteers’ Week (2nd June – 8th June), we want to shine a spotlight on and say a huge and heartfelt thank you to all our volunteers who give their time, skills and energy to support Ripon Museums. They animate our past, care for our heritage and play a vital role in the smooth operation of our three award-winning museums every single day. Quite simply, we couldn’t run without them.
Our volunteers are at the heart of everything we do. Whether they’re giving visitors a warm welcome, caring for our beautiful Workhouse Museum gardens, keeping our historic sites looking their best or lending a hand with events and maintenance — their dedication makes it all possible.
Alexa Vernon, Museums Director, shares her gratitude:

A Diverse Team with a Shared Passion
One of the most inspiring things about our volunteer team is its diversity. Our volunteers come from all walks of life — students, retirees, career changers, lifelong locals, and people new to Ripon — all bringing unique skills, perspectives, and experiences.
Some are passionate about history, others enjoy gardening or practical tasks, and many simply want to give something back to the community. There’s no “typical” volunteer here, and we believe that’s one of our greatest strengths.
