We are delighted to support this year’s Heritage Open Days – England’s largest festival of history and culture, involving thousands of local volunteers and organisations.
Every year the open days bring people together to celebrate their heritage, community and history.
This year we are throwing the doors of the Ripon Workhouse Gardens wide open on the 6th, 10th and 13th September.
Unearth the history of these heritage plant varieties and enjoy the garden’s natural beauty FREE.
The Ripon Workhouse & Gardens in the centre of Ripon, weave together the history of the notorious Victorian workhouse system and the natural beauty of its gardens.
The gardens to the front and rear of the Workhouse have been restored and maintained by a dedicated team of volunteers. The large Kitchen Garden is not only a beautiful place to sit and relax in but is also full of information and learning.
Come and explore our impressive Victorian Kitchen Garden to see the fruits, vegetables and herbs that residents of the Workhouse would have grown and eaten.
Read more about the Workhouse gardens here and explore all the plants we grow and the heritage seeds we plant.
