We are delighted to throw open the Victorian Workhouse Kitchen Garden doors on the 6th, 10th and 13th September and invite visitors the gardens for FREE.
As part of the Heritage Open Days, Ripon Museums are encourage new visitors to join us exploring the fruits, vegetables and herbs that residents of the Workhouse would have grown and eaten.
A team of volunteers will welcome Heritage Open Day visitors and answer any questions. Visitors will be free to explore the gardens and the rare varieties of heritage plants we grow here.
The gardens are kept the same as they would have been in Victorian times when it would have been used by the residents of the Workhouse.
It promises to be an interesting visit to learn more about the role of gardening in the Workhouse system and Victorian society’s relationship with nature.
