Prison & Police Trail

Every day

Every day at the Prison & Police Museum – open 10:00am util 4:00pm

Step back in time and discover what it was really like to work inside the historic cells of the Prison & Police Museum.

Our interactive Prison & Police Trail invites families to follow the clues, complete hands-on challenges, and experience the daily duties of police officers and prisoners who once walked these corridors.

Start your adventure by answering the ringing Police Box phone in the Front Yard, before jumping into action to catch a criminal in a high-speed chase. Budding detectives can collect evidence by taking fingerprints, just like a real police officer.

Then it’s time to swap sides and discover the tough reality of prison life by tackling traditional prisoner work tasks in the cells.

Finally, help the Prison Officer escort a prisoner and see if you’ve got what it takes to complete all five challenges. Tick off each task as you go and find out whether you’ll earn early release — or be sent back to turn the crank!

Perfect for families, this self-led trail makes history active, immersive and fun. Free with museum entry.
