Volunteering for the Soul at Ripon Museums

Crafts

The project aims to improve mental wellbeing and negate the emotional impacts of social isolation.

We will be creating opportunities for people to make connections, gain new friends and get involved in the life of the museums through volunteering.

All new volunteers engaging with our project will initially meet with Vicki, the Volunteers and Operations Manager , and have a chat about their interests so that we can find them a position in the museum that they will enjoy and find fulfilling.

We will link each person to a ‘buddy’ or buddies who they will shadow in their chosen area. The buddy will continue to support them for as long as they are needed- there is no time limit.  The long term aim is that the individual will go on to volunteer independently in their own right or use their experience with us as a spring board to new opportunities.

Anyone is eligible to join the project and individuals may have a number of reasons for wishing to take part but it may be particularly useful for people who are feeling socially isolated or who would like to improve their wellbeing. People can be referred by the organisations they are currently involved with, their local GP or they can ‘self’ refer.

There is a full induction program which will introduce new volunteers to all aspects of the museums and provide training and support.
