Do You Belong in a Museum?

Volunteers are the magic ingredient at Ripon Museums. Our continued success is only possible because of our wonderful team of volunteers. All ages, all abilities, all welcome!

Over 100 volunteers are actively involved in the wide range of flexible roles across our three sites and gardens. Whatever your interests and experience there is sure to be something which excites and interests you.

You could volunteer with us if you enjoy any of the following…

…talking to people, guiding groups, teaching groups, gardening, making things, cleaning things, selling things, researching, working with children, cataloguing, conserving, fund-raising, marketing, painting, repairing, office work, IT projects, being in costume, being in role, being creative, sharing ideas and looking after visitors and other volunteers.

You don’t have to have specialist knowledge to volunteer; all you will need is an enthusiasm for the museums and their collections and a willingness to get stuck in!

Some of our volunteers live locally whilst others live further afield, so there are opportunities for them to volunteer from home.  We can also provide short- and long-term work placements for school or college students or for those re-joining the workforce after a career break. We can tailor the placement to suit your needs and availability.

Volunteering is a great way to:

  • Build your skills and confidence
  • Enhance your CV and employment prospects
  • Make new friends and meet like-minded people

If you are interested in joining us, please contact Vicki Lever, Volunteer and Operations Manager on 01765 690799 or email [email protected].

You can apply via the Better Impact platform.

We are keen to hear from anyone interested in volunteering with us across all aspects of the museums, but particularly with the Front of House team.

Ghost Walks Team

We're looking for new members to join our Ghost Walks Team and support the delivery of regular ghost tours in Ripon. These events happen on a monthly basis, usually on the last Thursday of the month. Tour guides will:

  • Deliver regular tours of Ripon in costume
  • Deal with tour bookings and taking payment
  • Ensure visitors receive excellent customer service
  • Ensure tours follow COVID-19 safety requirements
  • Help to promote the tours to potential visitors

To find out more about the role or to apply, contact Vicki Lever on 01765 690799 or email [email protected].
